Aguero helps Argentina prevail against Uruguay in Copa America…

Two South American football giants met in the second round of Copa America group games on Tuesday. Uruguay barely squeaked by Jamaica in the first round, 1-0, while Argentina blew a 2-0 lead against Paraguay resulting in a draw.
Argentina desperately needed to win this match to keep their chance of qualification alive and they still possess one of the best players in the world, Lionel Messi. The Messi-Aguero combination is possibly one of the most lethal duos in soccer.
Although Argentina displays such an offensive threat, Uruguay has an intimidating defense that contained Messi on Tuesday. The Argentinians didn’t play well at Estadio La Portada, Messi wasn’t able to create many chances for his teammates and wasn’t much of a threat throughout the game.
In the 56′ mark, Aguero scored the only goal of the match with a diving header received by his Manchester City club teammate Pablo Zabaleta. The crucial, game-winning goal was Aguero’s second goal of the tournament, and his 25th with the national team.
Uruguay came close to a equalizer off a rebound from Argentine goalkeeper, Sergio Romero in the 75′ mark, but the Uruguay striker Diego Rolan sends the close-range shot over the crossbar. Substitute Abel Hernandez also came close in the 90th minute, but his low shot from inside the area was stopped by Romero.
This kept Argentina in first place of Group B along with Paraguay, which defeated Jamaica earlier in the night 1-0. Argentina and Paraguay both have four points, Uruguay follows with three points and Jamaica sits at the bottom of the group with zero.
A draw against Jamaica on Saturday will be enough to secure Argentina a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals. Uruguay will need to beat Paraguay on the same day to guarantee a place in the next round and defend their title. The top two teams in each of the three groups advance, plus the two-best third place finishers. The tournament continues on Wednesday when Brazil takes on Columbia in Group C play at Estadio Monumental David Arellano, Santiago de Chile.
